Today is suppose to be a quick ride, we started at 6:30pm @ Kenari trail head.
Three unfortunate souls joined the ride today -> Arthur, KokTiong and Suffian.
Arthur hinted balik pulau at the start of the ride, I though he was joking.
Why are we not prepared?
1. I did not bring any water or money.
2. Arthur did not bring his front lights.
3. Suffian have neither front nor black lights.
Why we think the mad idea would work ... miscommunication.
Arthur heard from Michele the ride would only take 25 mins ...
SO ... we rode up to Karpet at break-neck pace, so we could have time to go downhill to
Balik Pulau before dark. We reach Karpet at 7:15pm. My stamina was poor that day,
I took me quite an effort to reach the top, after stopping for 5 mins to catch my breath, we
took the path down to Balik Pulau.
The first part is very technical, with a >45 degrees drop close to 25 meters down on dirt track.
Suffian and Arthur made it down without stopping, but I pushed.
We were exited and thrilled initally, the path was not too difficult, but there is several places where choices needs to be made. So we asked the farmers, who were kind enough to show us the way down.
What a view!!! This is definitely the most scenic path we have taken. It was very steep at some-part, but the downhill ride seems ENDLESS!!! (To our enjoyment).
When we reach the bottom, there is one problem ... its 8pm, and the night has fallen ...
HOW DO WE GET BACK ... Remember the communication probelm.
Arthur thought its 25 mins to get home ... (which is inclusive of downhill).
The problem is to get back home, we need to go over the hill again ... After a few laughs, we started to curse Arthur ... so we officially declared 03-07-2009 as MAD (Mad Arthur Day) ... not to mention 2 other bikers MAD enough to play along.
The total distance travelled was about 38km. It took us 3.5 hours, we reach home at 9:30pm!!!
I decided to skip dinner and go straigth to bed, as we are meeting the gang at 7:15am tomorrow morning.
Note: My phone battery went dead at the top of Tun Sardon.
The final 15km was not logged.

LOL MAD instead. I was practically cursing Arthur during the 45min tortourus uphill climb-- B. Pulau to the top view point.
Hindsight, I kinda like it and got me thinking that this shud be a weekly affair-- Fri evening MAD ride. only this time we'll be fully prepared...........
